The build quality is excellent, on-par with the best pitcher filters in the market, such as the ClearlyFiltered and the Epic Pure. The body of the pitcher feels solid and strong, almost like a glass. We were afraid to hold it because we did not want to drop it, just like the feeling you get when holding glass materials.

While there are some compromises, they can be overlooked due to the many benefits they come with. However, for those looking for a filter that removes a plethora of contaminants for a reasonable price, the ZeroWater pitcher is a good option.
Just don't forget to remove the filter which should never be cleaned with soap. In a previous round of testing, we ran three alkaline water filter pitchers through a pH test -- Clearly Filtered, Invigorated Water pH Vitality and Seychelle pH20. ZeroWater pitchers are slightly more expensive than Brita and Pur but by no means a luxury purchase with some of the smaller dispensersstarting at around $25. Each one uses the same 5-stage filter so you can bet that you'll get similarly clean water no matter which unit you decide on. The ClearlyFiltered had removed lead and mercury to obscurity, along with chlorine, arsenic, PFOAs, and all the sedimentary contaminants. There were only trace amounts of DEET and herbicide left, but that is understandable since these were present in high concentrations, and it is very difficult to get rid of them. Safely, nowhere in the US the water supply has this much concentration of pesticides and herbicides. So the ClearlyFiltered capabilities are enough to keep you safe. Gladly there is no compromise in the build quality of the filter.
And the upper reservoir holds only about 9 cups, so filtering its stated capacity of 18 cups of water takes a couple of fills, and to reach its maximum capacity of about 25 cups takes almost three. LifeStraw, best-known for its outdoors-oriented water filters, also makes pitchers and a dispenser for home use. For design reasons explained below, we’re not too keen on the pitchers, but the dispenser shares the same ease of use, high capacity, and kid-friendly operation that we love in Pur and Brita’s versions. Moreover, the design of the LifeStraw filter makes it far more resistant to clogging with sediment than Pur’s and Brita’s—we poured gallons of highly rust-laden water through it without issue. If you’ve had a problem with your Pur or Brita filter getting clogged and stopping working, the LifeStraw dispenser may be worth switching to.
How do you clean a water filter pitcher?
Although the pitcher’s mouth is not wide enough to fit your hand for cleaning, Pykal does include a free long-handle sponge. Using a water pitcher could provide significant cost-savings because you’re eliminating bottled water purchases to have access to chilled and occasionally filtered water.
